What can you do to provide low cost insurance for your family’s health? There’s a lot to think about when it comes to choosing the right plan. Health insurance for your family can be more affordable than you think. Two popular low cost insurance plans that health insurance companies offer to the consumer are the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) and the Preferred provider organizations (PPOs).
An HMO is an organization of healthcare providers (e.g. doctors and hospitals) that have contracted with an insurance company to offer their services at a fixed price. PPOs on the other hand, also have contractual relationships with insurance companies, but they are more loosely organized and are not as restrictive as HMOs. With either one you pick, they’re both a good choice if you’re searching for low cost health insurance plan.
While the two are both affordable, you’ll need to decide which is more important to your family, “choice of physicians and specialists” or the “cost of the plan”.
Low cost health insurance is all about personal preference
HMOs are less expensive and offer less options. These low cost insurance health plans are great if you don’t mind the restrictions of having to see the doctor’s within their HMO network. While there is a wide selection of doctors and hospitals, you just need to make sure you visit your doctors within your HMO network. Employers that carry low cost insurance are the government and labor unions. These employers offer lower health premiums which affect make it cheaper for the employer and the employee. HMOs pay for a wide range of benefits including; diagnostic medicine, emergency room visits, physician, and hospital visits.
The PPO is another great choice, but it is a little more expensive than your typical HMO plan. PPOs have more options and a greater choice in the type of physicians that you can choose from. You also don't need a referral to see a specialist. Many people tend to choose these low cost insurance plans for their flexibility and since the healthcare decisions are more within your control. With a PPO, you can also choose to lower monthly premiums by raising your deductibles.
In the end, both the individual and employer will need to weigh the HMO and PPO low cost insurance options and see which one will benefit and fit their lifestyle.
